Chicago BI User Group

The Chicago SQL BI User Group is an official PASS chapter focusing on Microsoft's Business Intelligence and the Azure Data Platform.  

Along with the two other existing Chicagoland PASS chapters, our purpose is to help SQL Server and Azure Data Platform professionals connect, learn, and grow through networking opportunities and presentations on Business Intelligence related topics and techniques.  

Our group has over 900 members with a very diversified levels of experience and backgrounds. We strive to make it easy to ask questions and share knowledge in an open and direct manner.

Real-time Smart Home Analytics

There are two types of homes... smart homes and dumb homes.  If you have a smart home, how are you analyzing its impact?  We'll do our best to answer that question.  The main inspiration for this session was trying to answer the question "How many times a week does my daughter asks the Echo to play Ed Sheeran?".  In this session we'll cover how one can answer both real-time and historical questions utilizing a lambda architecture in Azure Data Services.  The data is easy to grasp.  We’ll also show how a similar reference architecture was implemented at an Investment Bank in Chicago with geo-redundant requirements.
